Record number on domestic flights

During the second quarter of this year, domestic flights had 4.1 million passengers. This is the highest number of passengers since Statistics Norway started this survey in 2009, and 105 000 or 2.7 per cent more than the same quarter of 2011.

Norwegian airports had a total of 13.3 million passengers during the second quarter of 2012; an increase of 3.8 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2011.

Some regional differences for domestic and international flights

Some airports had an increase in passenger numbers in international flights but a decrease in domestic flights. Bodø had a 5.7 per cent decrease in relation to passengers on domestic flights, and the corresponding figure for internationals fights was a 27 per cent increase. Tromsø airport had a corresponding decrease of 0.8 and increase of 19.2 per cent respectively. Others airports had an increment in both domestic and international flights. Oslo Gardermoen had an increase of 2.6 per cent in domestic and 3.7 per cent in international flights. Trondheim Værnes had a growth of 3.7 and 17.8 per cent respectively. International flights had 275 000 more passengers than the second quarter of 2011; an increase of 5.6 per cent.

Abroad via Gardermoen

Fifty-nine per cent of all passengers on international flights used Oslo Gardermoen airport during the second quarter of 2012. This represented 3.1 million passengers. In total, 5.2 million passengers travelled from Norwegian airports to abroad. From Bergen Flesland, 484 000 passengers travelled on internationals flights during this period. Moss Rygge had 453 000 passengers, Stavanger Sola 417 000, Sandefjord Torp 302 000 and Trondheim Værnes 232 000. All these airports combined represented 96 per cent of all passengers on international flights from Norwegian airports during the second quarter of 2012.

Growth in capacity

There were 198 000 aircraft movements registered at Norwegian airports in the second quarter of 2012; a 3.4 per cent increase compared to the second quarter of 2011. The corresponding number of seats was 21.3 million; a 6.5 per cent increase in the same period.

Half of all seats empty between Stavanger and Trondheim

The available capacity between Stavanger and Trondheim was 51 per cent and the corresponding figure between Bergen and Trondheim Langnes was15 per cent. For all flights to and from Norwegian airports, the available capacity was 38 per cent.

Growth in goods transport

A total of 21 000 tonnes of goods were transported at Norwegian airports in the second quarter of 2012; an increase of almost 17 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2011. A total of 17 100 tonnes were transported to and from Norway; an 18.5 per cent increase compared to the same quarter of 2011.
