Record number on international flights

During the third quarter of 2012, international flights had 3.1 million passengers. This is the highest number of passengers since Statistics Norway started this survey in 2009.

Norwegian airports had almost 250 000 more passengers on international departures during the third quarter of 2012 than in the same quarter of 2011; an increase of 6.3 per cent. A total of 14.1 million passengers flew during this period, which is the highest number of passengers since 2009.

Growth for domestic and international flights

Most of the airports had an increase in passenger numbers both on international flights and domestic flights. Oslo Gardermoen had an increase of 2.8 per cent in domestic and 6.5 per cent in international flights. Bergen Flesland had a growth of 1.6 and 5.8 per cent respectively. Stavanger Sola had an increase of 3.7 per cent in domestic flights and 14.3 per cent in international flights.

Similar growth for private airports

Both Moss Rygge and Sandefjord Torp had a similar increase in passenger numbers on international flights. Moss Rygge had an increase of 16.5 per cent in international passenger numbers and Sandefjord Torp had a 16.1 per cent increase. In total, 560 000 passengers travelled from Moss Rygge airport to abroad, and 527 000 passengers travelled on internationals flights during this period from Sandefjord Torp.

Growth in capacity

There were 21.1 million seats and 199 000 aircraft movements registered at Norwegian airports in the third quarter of 2012; a 5.8 per cent increase for seat numbers compared to the third quarter of 2011. The corresponding increase in aircraft movements was 2.7 per cent during the same period.

Almost full capacity between Bergen and Tromsø

The available capacity between Bergen and Tromsø was 7.0 per cent and the corresponding figure between Bergen and Bodø was14 per cent. For all flights to and from Norwegian airports, the available capacity was 33.2 per cent.

Growth in goods transport

A total of 21 000 tonnes of goods were transported at Norwegian airports in the third quarter of 2012; an increase of 7.0 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2011. A total of 17 600 tonnes were transported to and from Norway; a 13.0 per cent increase compared to the same quarter of 2011.
