1/3 of the containers over the port of Oslo

27 469 containers measured in TEU (Twenty feet Equivalent Unit) were transported over the port of Oslo during the 3rd quarter last year. This is almost a third of all containers handled by the big ports in this period.

The quarterly port statistics comprise of all national ports and all ports with a goods handling of 1 million tons cargo and above. Local traffic and fish are not included in the statistics. Transport from Norwegian oil installations to foreign ports are not included in the statistics. Read more in About the statistics.

After Oslo the port of Florø and the port of Borg handled 9 671 and 6 921 containers respectively. The ports of Ålesund, Stavanger, Larvik and Moss all handled fairly the same number of containers: from 5 000 to 4 500.

41.6 million tons of cargo during the 3rd quarter

The biggest ports handled 41.6 million tons of cargo during the 3rd quarter. Transport out of the country constitutes 69 per cent of this, and transport of crude oil, petroleum products and ore represents the biggest share of this transport.

863 000 tons of cargo were transported in containers in the 3rd quarter. By way of comparison 791 000 tons of cargo was transported in road vehicles, accompanying trailers, unaccompanying road trailers and semitrailers in the same ports.

Domestic traffic

Cargo not carried as liquid bulk or dry bulk in domestic traffic constituted 1,6 million tons in the 3rd quarter. 9 per cent of this was transported in containers and almost 75 per cent was transported as general cargo.
