Decline in Diesel Prices

The sub-index for fuel cost declined by 1.5 per cent from November to December 2000.The index increased by 4.5 per cent in 2000 whereas in 1999 it increased by 15.6 per cent.

The total cost index for transport of road goods went up 0.1 per cent from November to December.

The only vehicle group which showed a decline was timber transport, but the total costs have increased 5.6 per cent over the past year.

Growth in capital costs

The capital cost index increased by 1.6 per cent from November to December. The vehicle group long-haul transport increased the most by 2.1 per cent.

Over the past year the capital costs increased by 8.3 per cent. Construction transport without trailer increased the most by 11.2 per cent. This sub-index includes depreciation, financial costs and yearly expenses/annual taxes.

Increase in insurance costs

The insurance cost index went up 0.9 per cent from November to December. From December 1999 last year to December 2000 the increase was 8.3 per cent.

The vehicle group construction transport with and without trailer increased the most with 15.2 and 17.9 per cent.respectively.

The other sub-indices showed little or no change in December.
