Strong decline in diesel prices
The total cost index for road goods transport decreased by 0.8 per cent from December 2000 to January 2001. This decline was mainly due to lower diesel prices. The total index increased by 3.1 per cent over the last 12 months.
The total cost index showed a decline for all vehicle groups last month, with the exception of renovation transport, which was unchanged.
Lower diesel prices
As from the 1st of January the tax on diesel decreased by 0.50 Kroner, and contributed to a decline in the fuel index by 9.9 per cent last month. The decrease over the last 12 months was 5.8 per cent.
Increase in other sub-indices
The insurance cost index increased by 4.1 per cent the last month. From January 2000 to January 2001 the increase was 9.1 per cent.
The wage index increased by 2 per cent from December 2000 to January 2001, mainly due to higher social costs.
The sub index for ferry transport and toll increased by 2.5 per cent last month and the sub-index for repair and service costs increased by 1.9 per cent from December 2000 to January 2001. During the last year there has been an increase of 4.1 per cent.
The other sub-indices showed little or no change last month
