Decline in diesel prices

The fuel index decreased by 2.0 per cent from July to August 2001. Since August 2000 this index has decreased by 13.9 per cent.

The total cost index for road goods transport did not move last month. Since July last year the index has increased by only 0.7 per cent, mainly due to the decreasing fuel index. In comparison, the total cost index increased by 5.7 per cent between August 1999 and August 2000.

The decrease in diesel prices is mainly due to lower taxes and oil prices.

The insurance cost index increased by 1.0 per cent the last month. From August 2000 to August 2001 the increase was 11.3 per cent.

The sub-index for repair and service costs increased by 4.6 per cent from August 2000 to August 2001. Compared with last month the sub index increased by 0.6 per cent.

The tyre index increased by 0.6 per cent compared with last month. Since August 2000 the index has increased by 4.1 per cent.

Since July 2000 the index for capital costs has increased by 6.2 per cent. Since June this year this index has increased by 0.7 per cent.

The other sub-indices showed little or no change the last month.
