Increase in total costs
The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.8 per cent from August to September 2001. Fuel costs increased for the first time since May 2001, while lower interest rates led to a decrease in capital costs.
The total cost index for road goods transport has only increased by 0.2 per cent in the last 12 months, mainly due to decreasing diesel prices in the same period.
The fuel index has decreased by 18.0 per cent between September 2000 and September 2001, although the index has increased by 1.7 per cent in the last month. The overall decrease in diesel prices is mainly due to lower taxes and oil prices.
The Wage Index has increased by 1.4 per cent from August to September this year. Since September 2000 the increase has been 3.9 per cent.
The sub-index for repair and service costs has increased by 5.6 per cent from September 2000 to September 2001. Compared with last month the sub index increased by 1.1 per cent.
The Administration Cost Index has increased by 1.1 per cent in the last month. In the last twelve months this index has increased by 2.5 per cent.
The index for capital costs has decreased by 0.9 per cent in the last month, mainly due to lower interest rates. Since September 2000 the index for capital costs has increased by 5.0 per cent.
The other sub-indices showed little or no change the last month.
