Decrease in total costs

Fuel costs decreased by 0.9 per cent last month. The total cost index for road goods decreased by 0.7 per cent, due to lower diesel prices, lower interest rates and a decrease in administration costs.

The total cost index for road goods transport has decreased by 0.2 per cent in the last 12 months, mainly due to decreasing diesel prices.

The fuel index has decreased by 18.5 per cent during the last year, because of the general decrease in oil prices and tax cuts in January and July this year.

The index for capital costs dropped 2.2 per cent last month, because of lower interest rates. Since September 2000, this index has increased by 2.6 per cent.

The administration cost index decreased by 0.8 per cent last month, due to lower prices on telecommunication goods and services. In the last twelve months this index has increased by 1.7 per cent.

The other sub-indices showed little or no change the last month.
