Cheaper diesel - increase in total costs
The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.5 per cent last month, mainly due to increased salaries, increased tyre prices and increased administration costs. Diesel prices continued to pull in the opposite direction.
The total cost index has increased by 2.0 per cent in the last 12 months. In comparison, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) only grew by 0.4 per cent in the corresponding period, due to a decline in prices on food and electricity. These products are not included in the cost index for road goods transport.
Cheaper diesel
The recent development in oil prices has led the fuel index to decrease by 1.2 per cent in the last month. In the last 12 months this index has decreased by 8.9 per cent.
Increase in administration costs
The administration cost index increased by 1.2 per cent between April and May, due to increased prices on post and telecommunication services. Between May 2001 and May 2002, this index has increased by 4.8 per cent.
Increased wages
The Wage index has increased by 1.0 per cent in the last month. Over the last 12 months, this index has increased by 5.2 per cent.
More expensive tyres
The tyre index increased by 1.0 per cent compared with last month. In the last 12 months, this index has increased by 3.7 per cent.
Increase in capital costs
The index for capital costs increased by 0.7 per cent last month. Over the last 12 months, this index has increased by 0.6 per cent.
The other sub-indices showed little or no change the last month.
