Substantial increase in diesel prices

The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.7 per cent from January to February, mainly due to a substantial increase in diesel prices. In the last 12 months the total costs have increased by 3.7 per cent.

The fuel index has increased by 3.1 per cent last month, to the highest level that has been registered for this index since June 2001. From February 2002 to February 2003 the fuel index has increased by 7.9 per cent.

Increased wages

The wage index has increased by 1.1 per cent last month. During the last 12 months wages has increased by 5.6 per cent in road goods transport.

Decrease in capital costs

The index for capital costs decreased by 0.9 per cent last month, as a result of the decrease in real interest rates. In the last 12 months the capital index has decreased by 3.7 per cent.

Increased administration costs

The index for administration costs increased by 0.6 per cent last month, due to the increase in general prices. During the last 12 months administration costs has increased by 4.4 per cent.

The other sub-indices showed little or no change last month.
