Drop in diesel prices
The total cost index for road goods transport fell by 1.1 per cent on average from March to April, mainly due to a substantial decrease in diesel prices. In the last 12 months the total costs have increased by 3.4 per cent on average.
The recent development in oil prices led the fuel index to decrease by 11.0 per cent from March to April. With that, diesel prices are back on about the same level as in January this year.
The fuel index is based on actual diesel prices on the 15th of April. From April 2002 to April 2003 the fuel index has increased by 2.0 per cent.
Increase in capital costs
The index for capital costs increased by 3.9 per cent last month, as a result of an increase in real interest rates. Real interest rates are based on the consumer price index and three months' NIBOR-rates from The Central Bank of Norway.
During the last 12 months the capital cost index has increased by 1.0 per cent.
The other sub-indices show little or no change in the last month.
