Lower interest - rise in total costs
The total costs for road goods transport increased by 0.1 per cent from July to August, despite a marked decrease in real interest rates. The increase was due to increases in diesel prices, wages and administration costs.
The index for capital costs fell by 2.8 per cent last month, as a result of a substantial decrease in real interest rates. During the last 12 months this index has decreased by 9.0 per cent.
The total costs for road goods transport have increased by 1.7 per cent in the last year.
Increase in diesel prices
The fuel index has increased by 1.7 per cent from July to August. In the last year this index, which is based on actual diesel prices on the 15th of each month, has increased by 5.0 per cent.
Increased wages
The wage index has increased by 0.8 per cent from July to August. In the last 12 months wages have increased by 5.3 per cent for employees in road goods transport.
Rise in administration costs
The index for administration costs increased by 0.6 per cent from July to August. From August 2002 to August 2003 administration costs have increased by 3.3 per cent.
The other sub-indices show little or no change in the last month.
