Increased costs for road goods transport
The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.5 per cent on average from December 2003 to January 2004. The increase was mainly due to rises in tyre prices and diesel prices. Over the last 12 months, the total costs have increased by 1.4 per cent on average.
Increased tyre prices
The tyre index has increased by 1.7 per cent compared with last month, due to changes in prices by some contractors. In the last 12 months this index has increased by 2.4 per cent.
Higher diesel prices
The fuel index has increased by 1.4 per cent from December 2003 to January 2004. Over the last 12 months this sub-index has decreased by 2.1 per cent. The fuel index is based on actual diesel prices on the 15t h of each month, collected from a representative selection of dealers across the country.
Increase in wages and social costs
The wage index has increased by 0.8 per cent for the last month. From January 2003 to January 2004 this index has increased by 6.4 per cent.
Increased administration costs
The administration costs increased by 0.6 from December 2003 to January 2004. Over the last 12 months this index has increased by 3.4 per cent.
The other sub-indices show little or no change over the last month.
