Increase in transport costs

The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.7 per cent from April to May due to an increase in diesel prices, rise in repair and service costs and rise in the ferry costs. Over the last 12 months the total costs have increased by 1.1 per cent.

Higher diesel prices

The fuel index has increased by 2.7 per cent for the last month. From May 2003 to May 2004 this sub-index has increased by 5.3 per cent.

The fuel index is based on actual diesel prices collected from a representative selection of dealers across the country on the 15th of each month.

Rise in repair and service costs

The sub-index for repair and service costs increased by 1.6 per cent form April to May. In the last 12 months this index has increased by 2.1 per cent.

Rise in ferry costs

The index for ferry costs and road tolls has increased by 1.6 per cent in the last month, mainly due to rise in ferry costs. In the last 12 months this index has increased by 1.4 per cent.

The other sub-indices show little or no change over the last month.
