Due to lower capital costs, the total cost index for road goods transport decreased by 0.1 per cent from August to September. However, over the last 12 months the total costs have increased by 3.7 per cent.

The index for capital costs decreased by 2.0 per cent the last month, mainly due to decrease in the real interests rates. In the last 12 months this index, which is composed by depreciation and amortization, interest costs and annual fee, has increased by 4.5 per cent.

Cost index for road goods transport, by vehicle group. September 2005-September 2006. Basis January 1998=100

The real interest rates are based on the consumer price index and are three month's NIBOR-rates from the Central Bank of Norway, and may therefore deviate somewhat from the average interest offered by Norwegian banks.

Increased tyre prices

The tyre index has increased by 1.4 per cent from August to September due to price changes by some suppliers. Over the last 12 months this sub-index has increased by 5.2 per cent.

The fuel index has increased by 0.9 per cent for the last month. From September 2005 to September 2006 this sub-index has increased by 6.8 per cent.
