Offshore shows solid growth
In 2008, water transport had a turnover of NOK 130.5 billion compared to NOK 125.8 billion in 2007; an increase of 3.7 per cent. Offshore, as an industry sub-class in water transport, made up 15 per cent of turnover in 2008, while representing 43 per cent of the total growth.
The industry sub-class offshore supply and services had a turnover of NOK19.2 billion, compared with NOK 17.1 billion in 2007; an increase of 10.7 per cent.
Steady increase for domestic water transport
The industry sub-class passenger ocean transport had a turnover of NOK 5.7 billion in 2008; a decrease of 1.6 per cent compared to 2007. There were 3 586 employees in this sub-class in 2008, compared to 4 064 in 2007; a reduction of 13.3 per cent. Freight coastal transport had a turnover in 2008 of NOK 3.3 billion; an increase of 12.6 per cent compared to 2007. A total of 1 249 persons were employed in this sub-class in 2008 compared to 1 256 in 2007.
Warehousing and support activities for transportation
The operating income increased from NOK 76 billion in 2007 to NOK 81 billion in 2008.
Postal and courier activities
There was a stable development for these enterprises last year. Turnover was NOK 16 billion in 2008, compared with NOK 15.4 billion in 2007.
Increased value added for the local-kind-of -activity units (KAUs) for land transport
The total number of persons employed was 68 598 in 17 155 KAUs. Total value added was NOK 32.3 billion in 2008; 5.1 per cent more than the previous year.
Total for transport and storage at enterprise level
The operating income increased by 5 per cent to NOK 333 billion in 2008.The number of employed persons was 156 082; up 1 613 from 2007. The operating margin was 9.1 per cent for 2008 and the operating result was NOK 30.4 billion in 2008.
Statistics at enterprise levelThe structural business statistics for transportation and storage are compiled both at local KAU level and enterprise level. Figures at the enterprise level will usually deviate from figures at the local KAU level. This is due to the fact that the enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs. |
