10 per cent of eligible voters have immigrant background
A total of 386 700 out of the 3 798 600 who are entitled to vote this year have an immigrant background. This is approximately 10 per cent of the total. A total of 87 000 persons with an immigrant background are allowed to vote for the first time.
Figure 1 shows the share of voters with an immigrant background in each county, grouped by country background. A total of 60 300 have a background from a Nordic country, while 138 900 have a background from one of the other European countries. The eligible voters with a European background make up about 52 per cent of eligible voters with an immigrant background.
The rest are distributed into 124 300 with an Asian background, 40 700 with an African background, 9 600 from North and Central America, 11 800 with a South American background and 1 100 from Oceania.
Oslo stands out, with one in four eligible voters having an immigrant background. Persons with a non-European background constitute the largest group among these.
First time voters without Norwegian citizenship
A total of 87 000 of the eligible voters with an immigrant background are first time voters who are older than 18 years old. This group makes up 5.1 per cent of all eligible voters in Oslo, and1 per cent in Nord-Trøndelag.
