Stable unemployment

There were 108 000 unemployed persons in June, adjusted for seasonal variations. This accounts for 3.9 per cent of the labour force.

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment has remained unchanged from March (average of February-April) to June (average of May-July), at 108 000 unemployed persons. This accounts for 3.9 per cent of the labour force.

In comparison, the number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) decreased by 2 000 persons from March to June. Estimates are seasonally adjusted and calculated as three-month averages.

From the spring of 2017 to the autumn of 2017 there has been a gradual decrease in seasonally-adjusted unemployment. Changes since September 2017 in the number of unemployed persons have been within the LFS error margin, and the level fluctuated between 4.0 and 3,8 per cent of the labour force.
Small changes in employment
According to the LFS, the seasonally adjusted number of employed persons increased by 13 000 persons from March (average of February-April) to June (average of May-July). This change is within the LFS error margin. In the same period, the population aged 15–74 years has increased, and therefore the employment rate has remained relatively stable, up 0.2 percentage points from March (average of February -April) to 67.5 per cent in June (average of May-July).
During the last year, the number of employed persons has increased by 54 000 persons. This corresponds to an increase from 66.5 to 67.5 in the employment rate.
