Stable unemployment

There were 113 000 unemployed persons in September, adjusted for seasonal variations. This accounts for 4.0 per cent of the labour force.

The Labour Force Survey (LFS), shows that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment increased by 0.2 percentage points from June (average of May-July) to September (average of August -October). This change is within the LFS margin of error.

Since September 2017 the changes in the unemployment rate has been within the LFS error margin and the level mainly fluctuated between 4.0 and 3,8 per cent of the labour force. The trend is therefore that the unemployment rate is stable.
In comparison, the number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) decreased by 1 000 persons from June to September. Estimates are seasonally adjusted and calculated as three-month averages.

Small changes in employment
According to the Labour Force Survey, 9000 more people were employed in September compared to June, adjusted for seasonal variations, and accounts for an increase of 0.1 percentage points in the employment rate. This change is within the LFS margin of error, but in accordance with an increasing trend. During the last year, the number of employed persons has increased by 51 000 persons.
