Stable unemployment
The 96 000 unemployed persons in February 2014 corresponded to 3.5 per cent of the labour force, unchanged from November 2013.

According to the seasonally-adjusted figures from the Labour Force Survey (LFS), unemployment was 3.5 per cent in February 2014 (average of January-March). This was unchanged from November 2013 (average of October-December). Since the LFS showed an increase in unemployment in late 2012, the unemployment rate has only varied within the error margin .
The seasonally-adjusted number of unemployed persons was unchanged from November 2013 to February 2014. The number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) was also unchanged during this period. This figure is also seasonally adjusted and based on a three-month average.
Unchanged employment figure
The seasonally-adjusted figure of employed persons decreased by 3 000 from November 2013 to February 2014; a decrease which is within the error margin. The employed persons in February 2014 corresponded to 68.4 per cent of the population aged 15-74 years; down 0.3 percentage points from November 2013.
The number of employed persons has only varied within the LFS error margin since the autumn of 2013. Since then, the trend has been an increase in the number of employed persons aged 25-74 years and small changes or a decrease in the number of employed persons aged 24 years or younger.
Unemployment down in Germany, up in France
Unemployment in Germany corresponded to 5.1 per cent of the labour force in February 20141; down 0.1 percentage points from November the previous year. Unemployment in Germany has steadily decreased in recent years, from a level of approximately 8 per cent in 2009. France has had the opposite trend; unemployment was at 10.4 per cent in February 2014 – up 0.2 percentage points from November 2013 and up from a level of approximately 9 per cent in 2009.
