Figures from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) show that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 3.9 per cent in January 2015 (average of December-February). This was up by 0.1 percentage point – or 5 000 persons – from October 2014 (average of September-November). The increase is within the error margin of the LFS, but still in line with an increasing trend since May 2014.
Since the last release, the unemployment rate for December 2014 (average of November-January) has been adjusted from 3.7 to 3.8 per cent. These kinds of adjustments are normal since the whole time series is seasonally adjusted every month.
The number of people registered as unemployed or on government initiatives to promote employment with the Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) increased by 1 000 from October 2014 to January 2015. This figure is also seasonally adjusted and based on a three-month average.
Employment growth
According to the LFS, the seasonally-adjusted number of employed persons increased by 23 000 from October 2014 to January 2015. This is in line with the development last year. The number of employed persons increased by 36 000 from January 2014 to the same month in 2015. Despite this, the employment rate remained unchanged at 68.6 per cent during this period. This is related to a simultaneous growth in the population. This development took place among both women and men.
The statistics is published with Labour force survey.
