National associations for wage earners had 1 745 000 members as per 31 December 2013, which is an increase of 18 000 members from 2012.

Approximately 93 per cent of all union members are organised in one of the four main associations; LO, YS, Unio and Akademikarane.

Employers' associations

There were only small changes in the membership figures for employers’ associations compared to the previous year.

About the statistical basis

The statistics cover employers’ associations for national associations and the umbrella organisations to which individual organisations belong. Organisations that limit their activities to purely professional issues are not included in the statistics. The number of members in national associations for wage earners includes all registered members and thus also includes non-working students, pensioners etc. The statistics cover the number of members as at 31 December 2013.
