As from 2015, the statistics are based on new data sources (a-ordningen), see further details in «About the statistics». Because of this the years as from 2015 are not comparable with previous years. The new data source has provided the statistics with better quality. The quality improvements are particularly visible for employees on short-term stays (not registered as resident). Due to limitations in the data sources we used up to 2014, we included too many employees on short-term stays. The decline we see for this group from 2014 to 2015 is thus not real. All 1s and 2s have been replaced by 0 or 3 in order to meet privacy requirement. Establishments in the industrial classification 09.1 Support activities for petroleum and natural gas extraction, and some other industries, are given a land code from the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities, even where operations are carried out on the Norwegian continental shelf. Previously, establishments that Statistics Norway considered to be on the continental shelf were given a new code. However, this procedure has been discontinued. This means that many jobs that were previously registered under the Norwegian continental shelf are now considered to be on the Norwegian mainland as from the fourth quarter of 2018. This has further led to an artificial decrease in the number of employed persons on the Norwegian continental shelf and a corresponding artificial increase in other counties in fourth quarter of 2018 and 2019, mainly in Rogaland. Self employed persons are not included.
