From growth to decrease
In 2009 the transport by rail on Norwegian territory experienced a fall in traffic after some years characterised by growth. The number of passengers was 57.9 million; a decrease from 2008 by almost 2 per cent. The decrease in tonnes transported came to 7 per cent.
The total goods production by rail did however increase slightly (0.8 per cent) and came to almost 3.7 billion tonne-kilometres. This can be explained by an increase in the average transport length per tonnes of 13 kilometres. The passenger kilometres produced decreased by 1.3 per cent and came to 3.1 billion.
