International road transport up
Norwegian lorries carried more goods abroad and less goods domestically during the first quarter of 2010 than in the corresponding quarter of 2009.
The total transport performance by Norwegian lorries during this year’s first quarter amounted to 4.5 billion tonne kilometres. This is slightly higher than 5 per cent more than in the corresponding quarter last year. The tonnage carried was down by 5 per cent, while the total distance covered was almost 3 per cent up compared with the first quarter of 2009.
The international transport by Norwegian lorries reached its lowest level in the first quarter of 2009. Compared with this, the international transport performance increased by 56 per cent, and the tonnage carried by almost 4 per cent. The national transport on the other hand, had a fall compared with the first quarter of 2009. The transport performance was down almost 3 per cent and the tonnage carried was down 5 per cent.
